Nintendo Switch Sales Could “Eclipse The Wii” Says GameStop

Fils-Aime Switch issues

There is no question that Nintendo has had its fair share of ups and downs over the last 15 years or so, with them reaching insane heights with the Wii and handhelds like the Nintendo DS, but also failing miserably with the Wii U. This really made the Nintendo Switch a big question mark leading up to its release, even with the pre-orders selling out everywhere, but one person at GameStop has made a bold proclamation about the future of the Nintendo Switch.

In an interview with GameRant, GameStop senior director of merchandising Eric Bright discussed the Nintendo Switch, including it sales so far, attachment rate, and even comparing it to the Wii.

“The Nintendo Switch is off to a start right now that it could possibly eclipse the Wii. Initial sales on this have been phenomenal. I can’t give straight numbers, but I can say we’re seeing one of the highest attach rates of software and accessories to a device that we’ve seen in a long time.”

This is definitely quite a statement to make, as the Nintendo Wii went on to sell over 100 million units and was a phenomenon. The inability to get a Nintendo Switch right now is very similar to the situation we saw with the Wii. However, the big question will be how well it continues to sell once the supply catches up with the demand.

The mention of attachment rate is definitely interesting, as one of the biggest complaints about the Nintendo Switch was the lack of a solid launch lineup. Obviously, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the big game that most everyone is buying with the system, but it’ll be interesting to hopefully find out how well other games like 1-2-Switch and Super Bomberman R are selling alongside the Switch as well.

On the other hand, it’s no big surprise that the accessories are selling well, with the extra Joy-Cons, Pro Controller, chargers, and more available.
