Tomorrow, June 30, will see the release of the first of two DLC Packs for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This first DLC Pack, called “The Master Trials,” includes a number of new features, such as the Trial of the Sword challenge, Hero’s Path Mode for the in-game map, Hard Mode and a new item called the Travel Medallion. Also included in this DLC are several pieces of new armor. These past few days leading up to the release of the DLC, various Nintendo employees who worked on Breath of the Wild explained what each piece of armor does.
The Korok Mask is styled after the Koroks in the GameCube’s The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. When Link wears this mask in Breath of the Wild, the mask will shake whenever Link is near one of the game’s 900 Korok Seeds, making them easier to find. The Phantom Armor is designed to look like the Phantoms from the DS titles The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. In Breath of the Wild, Link’s attack power will be increased when wearing the armor. Midna’s Helmet made its first appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the GameCube and Wii. Link receives the “Guardian Resist Up” ability when wearing the helmet in Breath of the Wild, which gives Link more armor options when fighting Guardians. Tingle’s Outfit originally belonged to the character Tingle who made his first appearance in the N64’s The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask and has gone on to star in several of his own spin-off games in Japan. When Link wears the outfit in Breath of the Wild, he will gain the “Night Speed-Up” ability, allowing him to move around faster at night. The last piece of armor that will come with this DLC is Majora’s Mask, which, obviously, originates from The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. When wearing this mask in Breath of the Wild, weaker enemies like Moblins and Bokoblins will think Link is one of them and not attack him.
“The Master Trials” DLC is out tomorrow and only available when you purchase the Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass, which includes both “The Master Trials” and “The Champions’ Ballad,” which will be available this Holiday season.
