Sony Considers Returning to Gamescom This Year

Gamescom 2017

For the past two years, Sony has decided to skip the European videogame fair Gamescom to focus instead on the two events that happen in the months before and after in the year: E3 and their own PlayStation Experience. However, in a conversation to Gamereactor, Sony’s global sales and marketing chief Jim Ryan says that the company is considering going back to Gamescom this year.

Their absence from Gamescom in the last two editions can be explained as the company tries to make sure they have enough announcements and new footage to show among all the videogame conferences through the year, and unfortunately Gamescom usually happens only about two months after E3. However, the fact that some of Sony’s fall releases have an important European fanbase like Gran Turismo Sports, or the fact that Gamescom starts a little later this year, may help the PlayStation maker to reconsider their position this year.

Ryan said: “It would be nice to do something in Europe this year. So that’s something we’re looking at very carefully.”

This year’s Gamescom will take place in Cologne, Germany, from August 22 through August 26.  So it’s likely that Sony will announce their final decision in the coming weeks.
