Shenmue 3 Delayed to Late 2018

Shenmue 3

Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki has shared a video message in which he announces that the fans will have to wait a little longer for Shenmue 3, as the game release is being delayed until the second half of 2018. This was an expected move considering the lack of new trailers and the team’s announcement that they would stay in Japan working on the project instead of assisting this year’s E3.

Suzuki explains that the new technologies used for the game has allowed him to build a bigger and more beautiful game than he originally anticipated, but in turn he has found the need to spend more time making a fully realized version of the game he has dreamed to make for 16 years. More information about this delay will be released alongside the next Backer Report later this month.

Announced almost two years ago, Shenmue 3 has been developed in the most part thanks to a historic Kickstarter campaign that broke most records concerning videogame projects, and opened the door for lots of independent games that would look for financing through the platform later.

In a time when even the biggest studios are forced to delay their productions, it’s understandable that a small studio asks for more time to launch their project, even though the the news will disappoint the fanbase. Watch Suzuki’s video message below.
