Red Dead Redemption 2 quickly became one of the most highly-anticipated games of 2017 following its announcement recently, seeing as its predecessor was considered as one of the best games of the last console generation. While details continue to be sparse on the next game, we’re now getting a bit more information on what direction the game is headed in.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke recently at a MKM Partners event, where he mentioned the huge positive response to the sequel and the direction it will be taking. He begins by talking about how the first game was a risk seeing as it was a western, though the times were right for it and the times are right for a sequel. He said the following:
“The conventional wisdom was of course that a western wouldn’t work. We took a different point of view, which is that very occasionally westerns capture the imagination of the public. When we launched Red Dead, it did. And those times were right for that. And I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again–and that’s not meant to be cute.”
He also adds that the game will have great story elements with incredible emotional depth, as well as great gameplay elements. Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Fall 2017.
