There’s some debate about the overall health and success of Sony’s PlayStation VR, but there isn’t when it comes to hardware sales. The unit is still sold out at most retailers, with potential buyers having to watch for any sign of a restock. Sony seems to understand this and has promised a new round of stock for the very popular PlayStation VR bundle. They even went one step further and are throwing in a new game option this time.
The original bundle, which will be returning to stores next week for its usual retail price of $499, still includes all the same stuff. That means you get the PSVR headset, the PlayStation camera, two Move controllers, a demo disc, and PlayStation VR Worlds to get you started on using your headset. Along with this bundle comes a new PSVR bundle that substitutes the horror title Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for PSVR Worlds.
If you aren’t already pretty deep into Sony’s peripheral market, the bundle is definitely the way to go. Most PSVR games require Move controllers, and the camera is a must-own if you want the headset to work. The base PlayStation VR SKU doesn’t come with any of these, so you’d have to buy them separately or already have them if you wanted to dive into the VR gaming world.
I’ve been impressed with my PSVR so far, though I haven’t had any true wow moments. Of course, I’ve been playing VR games for a while now, so this wasn’t my first rodeo. No matter what, it’s impressive to see the performance of PlayStation VR on a PS4, when most other VR gaming headsets require a very powerful PC. The PS4 Pro also gives a performance boost, though this hasn’t been fully quantified just yet.
