PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds New Modes and Xbox One Port in Progress

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground’s recently passed an impressive mark for a game with very little marketing.  It’s recently sold over 2 million copies on Steam through Early Access.  The survival title which takes some of the very best elements of other “Battle Royale” type games and brings them together into a package that many are enjoying is apparently also on its way to the Xbox One.

According to Bluehole Studios and Brendan Greene there is already a team working on an Xbox One port of the game, and it sounds like PlayStation 4 could be on the cards as well.

“We have a team working already on looking to port it to at least the Xbox One,” said Greene. “We’re looking at both consoles of course, but we have no time frame for both.”

It doesn’t sound like it will be an incredibly difficult port, given that the game runs on the Unreal Engine 4 which is a notoriously well-mannered engine for multi-platform games.  While there’s no word on when exactly this will happen it’s likely that it will happen ASAP.  There’s no way that they’ll want to pass up on the potential financial windfall of releasing on consoles and hitting an even broader market with Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

It does appear that finishing the PC game is the top priority though.  And with that, it sounds like there’s still plenty of work to be done, and that work includes new modes for the core game that they want to add.  Greene also mentioned modding coming to the game down the road.
