Phil Spencer Says Xbox One Will Have a Fun Year In 2017 Led By Different IPs

| @FanboyAttack | 8 months ago

The last week has been pretty rough for Xbox following the announcement that Scalebound had been cancelled, leaving a fairly weak lineup of exclusives for 2017. A lot of people have been questioning where Xbox is going in the future, but Xbox boss Phil Spencer doesn’t seem too concerned about the 2017 lineup.

The 2017 Xbox One lineup right now is led by Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, and Sea of Thieves among a few others, which is definitely a little different than what Xbox One owners might be used to. We will probably see a new Forza game this year, but the rest of the lineup is a little bit unknown in how well they will do.

Spencer was asked on Twitter if we would be seeing a new IP this year or next year for Xbox One that hasn’t been announced before, but his response was a little more cryptic and vague, in which he said:

“XB1 games shipping this year are different for us. not Halo FPS/Gears led, new experiences with different IP, will be fun year”

Rather than discuss the potential of some unannounced new IPs coming to the system, he instead talked about the “different IP” that aren’t as common on Xbox, such as the RTS Halo Wars 2 and the completely new Sea of Thieves.

Hopefully, Spencer has some other games to announce at E3 that are further along in the development process to where they could release this year. It seems that one of Xbox’s biggest issues is announcing games way too far out. It’s one thing with a Halo game to do that, as you know it’ll be coming eventually, but for a game like Scalebound, who knows when it could be axed.

There are definitely a number of Xbox One owners that have been disappointed by cancellations of games like Scalebound and Fable Legends, especially if it’s going to become a trend, but Spencer and the team at Xbox definitely need to blow it out at E3 this year and really show what the Xbox brand is all about and what they have in store for the future, especially with Scorpio coming.
