NieR: Automata Dev Not Against Releasing Game On Xbox One

Next year NieR: Automata will launch for PlayStation 4 and PC, which is the highly-anticipated game from PlatinumGames and the follow-up to the cult classic that launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, despite this one skipping Microsoft’s console at launch, it’s possible that the game may eventually end up on Xbox One.

NieR: Automata producer Yosuke Saito recently did an interview with GameRant, where they briefly discussed the platforms that the game will be releasing for. He revealed that he has nothing against bringing the game to Xbox One, and that the team is actually openly considering the possibility. However, the possibility of the game coming to Microsoft’s console has a lot to do with how well the game sells at launch.

Seeing as Japanese games never do as well on Xbox as they do on PlayStation, it’s reasonable for the team to want to bring it to PlayStation 4 and PC first. If the game does really well then they’ll give the Xbox One version a shot, but if not they’re not going to waste their time with a platform where it will likely do even worse.

NieR: Automata will launch on February 23rd, 2017 in Japan, though it does not have a specific worldwide release date outside of a vague 2017 window.
