Crytek breaks Homefront 2 silence

When Crytek teamed with THQ to develop the next installement in the Homefront series, it seemed like a match made in heaven. Crytek, the seasoned veterans seemed to be a better fit for a franchise that had high expectations.

Amid the financial problems at THQ, Homefront was one of the properties being auctioned off, and it was confirmed yesterday that Crytek scooped the license in the auction. Since it was announced back in 2011 that Crytek had been working on the game, it only made sense for them to make the bid, and they won it for around $500,000. This gives the developer either the option to self publish the military shooter, or team with a publisher to bring Homefront 2 to market.

“Since we first reached an agreement to develop Homefront 2, we’ve been firm believers in the IP and its potential to excite and amaze players,” Cevat Yerli explained in a press release confirming the purchase. “Our cooperation with THQ was always positive and we would like to thank them for all their support over the last two years and express our sympathy to those affected by the recent events at the company.”

“Nothing has changed with regards to our development of the game,” which is being developed in Crytek’s U.K. Studio.

It’s unclear when Homefront 2 will arrive at this point, but we’ll likely see or hear something about the upcoming game at E3 2013. Crytek has it’s third installment of the Crysis series due out in March, which is being published by EA.
