Bethesda Says Nintendo Has Been “Very Good Partner” With The Nintendo Switch

by | @DJamesSC | on February 19, 2017

The Nintendo Switch is less than two weeks from release and many aspects of the system are still a mystery. One big key for Nintendo with the Switch is obtaining strong third party support, which is sounding much better than the Wii U at this point at least. One of the first announced games for the system was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and it sounds like this could lead to a much better relationships between Nintendo and Bethesda moving forward.

Bethesda is one of the most well respected companies in the industry, bringing popular series like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, but Nintendo has not really bothered to pursue them to put games on their platforms in the past. That is already changing with Skyrim, and it sounds like it could mean more too.

In an interview with GameSpot, Bethesda’s Todd Howard discussed the Nintendo Switch and how it’s very unique with its hybrid nature.

“I think it’s really smart what they’ve done. I think it’s the kind of device that only Nintendo could make. It’s exciting to bring Skyrim to the Nintendo audience.”

Howard went on further to explain how Nintendo has been a “very good partner” in helping Bethesda to bring Skyrim to the Switch, “Whereas before they were less interested in the types of things that we did or some other groups did.”

This is definitely the vibe that many developers have been giving with the Nintendo Switch, as Nintendo appears to have made a system that is much more third party friendly. The Wii U was faulted for developers having to find a way to use the GamePad, but the Switch is much more accessible.

Howard did make a point to say that he had no idea how successful the Nintendo Switch would be or where their relationship would go from here, but he did say “I think it’s a really smart platform. We like it a lot.”
